]]>Super Bowl Sunday always brings increased revenue for sports bars, but this season has provided an upturn in the nightlife scene here in Kansas City. After every win, the momentum built and the enthusiasm took hold of Kansas Citians throughout the city. With this elation comes the urge to commemorate that particular event with likeminded individuals thus filling KC bars and clubs with fans seeking a safe place with a positive atmosphere.
News coverage has shown us the enormous amount of people that filled our entertainment districts like Westport and Power & Light. Those same areas are prepping for another round of celebrations during and following the parade that will no doubt overtake the city. Bar and club owners have been bracing their staff and upping their liquor orders with every victory to ensure their establishments can handle the influx of fans while city workers are putting in overtime to handle the crowds.
The Chiefs parade is projected to be an even larger event than the estimated half a million people that attended the Royals World Series parade in 2015. That experience has resonated with many and this will be no different. Luckily, that day was one of peaceful jubilation and it is the hope that Kansas City will have yet another smooth day of merriment to celebrate this Super Bowl win.
It is said that the Midwest is a friendly place with a welcome environment. Let’s show the world what true winners look like while supporting our Chiefs and local establishments. Remember that while you are toasting drinks at the bar/club, the person serving you is earning their living. Be cognizant of the fact that the city is overflowing with people hoping to revel in this experience and make positive memories that will last a lifetime. Be patient. Be kind. But most importantly, act like the world class champions we are!
UpDown Nightlife will be honoring Chiefs Kingdom with a post parade celebration at Shot Stop. Many of our followers were there with us when we won the AFC championship and again when we took home the W in Miami! Let’s run it back one more time together. Doors open at noon.

]]>Enhanced security became a necessity recognized by the City of Kansas City, Missouri and the Westport Community Improvement District. The new security program was established and performance metrics were put in place in September of 2018 for Friday and Saturday evenings between 11:00 pm and 3:00 am. These security measures are in place during the months of April through October based on the projected weather for those evenings and/or the availability of law enforcement to help secure the gates.
When speaking with the Westport Regional Business League about the results of this initiative, it was apparent that the district is moving in the right direction. Over the course of the first year, 286,254 patrons and employees were tracked through the walk-through metal detectors. Within that number, the reported number of firearm/contraband interceptions was quite impressive – 4 firearms, 2 box cutters, 29 knives, 6 tasers, 1 pair of scissors and 1 pepper spray fogger. Additionally, 2 guns that were hidden outside of the perimeter were recovered by Westport Public Safety officers after the hiding of the guns was observed via security cameras.
The WRBL also provided us with some statistics that helped put the trend of weapon offences into perspective for many people. In 2015, the Right to Bear Arms Amendment to the Missouri Constitution was passed which in turn increased the number of weapon offenses to 16 in the district in 2016. Then, as open-carry state statutes became more permissive in 2017, that number leaped to 66 which became a huge issue for public safety in the district and as many of us recall, a lot of gun violence in the streets of Westport. After the enhanced security was put in place, that number has plummeted to 10 in 2019.
Furthermore, the city required that the AdHoc Group Against Crime be present to monitor the screening processes and ensure that the civil rights of those individuals subject to additional screenings were in place and carried out in the appropriate manner. There were no reports of discrimination or possible discrimination made to the City of Kansas City during the first year of the enhanced screenings.
It seems that Westport and the community involved with the district will continue to be proactive in taking the appropriate measures to keep us safe. In fact, the number of incidents involving violent crime is down 65% in the area.
UpDown Nightlife always wants to provide a safe environment for our consumers to the best of our abilities. While it is clear that Westport has made great strides in attempting to overcome the hardships of the past, there is always room for improvement. This year they added more entrances and scanners to reduce lines and there will surely be more enhancements in the future. Remember, it is important to advocate for yourself, your safety and the safety of others. Don’t be afraid to voice concerns should you have them.

]]>The post Women Go-To Drink in Club/Bar appeared first on UpDown NightLife App.
]]>Recently, UpDown Nightlife took an Instagram poll to see what drink women favor when out for the night. The participation was impressive, and the answers gave us a lot of insight into the needs and selections of our female followers.
Tequila was the drink of choice for a majority of our participants, which isn’t all that surprising. Tequila is low in calories and has been said to have a variety of health benefits. Made from agave, tequila has been linked to lowering blood sugar, improving bone health and may actually aid in digestion and weight loss. Many have also claimed that tequila acts as an antidepressant and reduces stress. However, this is likely a myth. Regardless, tequila does seem to have a certain uplifting quality. Whether you’re taking straight shots or mixing with OJ, tequila is always a good choice!
Delightfully, Hennessy was the second choice of our female demographic. This bodes well for our promotion of Hennessy & Friends and we must credit the ladies for making that so successful! The brand is actually responsible for almost half of the world’s Cognac production and boasts that Hennessy Life is lived by those who ‘Never Stop. Never Settle.’ This is a sentiment that women worldwide should apply to their everyday life! Hennessy is also widely immersed in art, music and culture – making it a household name.
Crown Royal is in close competition with Vodka to take second runner up. With a variety of flavors, the Canadian whiskey is versatile. For a sweeter taste, Apple and Peach can be easily mixed into a dangerously delicious cocktail while the original flavor never seems to let us down. Still, we also have to take into account that some women do not care for dark liquor which is why Vodka was also an extremely popular choice.
No matter what your preference is, the mixers seemed to be consistent across the board. If you aren’t drinking liquor straight, Pineapple juice, Cranberry Juice or Red Bull are the options that most of our poll participants prefer.
To thank all of the beautiful women that took place in our poll, UpDown Nightlife will be holding a contest to win 5 drinks ON US! The rules are simple:
*Must be one of the aforementioned drinks in this article*

]]>The post Wale Stops in Kansas City, Wow … That’s Crazy appeared first on UpDown NightLife App.
]]>Rapper Wale tweeted midafternoon on Sunday that his driver needed rest, so they were making an impromptu stop in Kansas City. Within minutes, his mentions were flooded with KC followers giving him insight on the best food spots, sights to see and of course, many eager fans hoping to get a glimpse of him out on the town.
Shortly thereafter, Wale posted his plate from Gates BBQ, many thanks to those who gave recommendations and asked where the party was that night. He said”…y’all got some clubs poppin on Sunday ? We tryn Tap in”.
That was our cue. UpDown Nightlife took this opportunity to show one of the greats exactly what it is to party in Kansas City. Within a matter of hours and with the help of the phenomenal staff at Bridger’s, we were able to pull off the unthinkable. Wale was committed to attending this pop up and Kansas City showed up and showed out with an outpouring of love and excitement.
The room was abuzz with fervor and frenzy as Wale got on the mic to perform some of his latest songs and old hits. The entire crowd rapped along, knowing every word to “On Chill”, “BGM” & “Lotus Flower Bomb”. To say the energy in the room was electric would be an understatement. The vibe was indescribable.
As a city that is often overlooked when it comes to artists on tour, last night meant everything to UpDown Nightlife and the scene here in Kansas City. Wale spoke of the love our city showed to him in numerous tweets and even questioned why we weren’t a stop on his schedule in the first place. And to think this epic night was all sparked by a simple tweet.
Thank you Wale for broadcasting to the social media world that KC is worth the stop. Thank you to KC for attending our pop up with nothing but love and positivity. And of course, a huge thank you to the staff at Bridger’s in Westport for handling the chaos of this last-minute event with poise and professionalism. UpDown will continue to prove that Nightlife Matters in Kansas City and around the world.

]]>The post Say Hello To “The 9ine Ultra Lounge” appeared first on UpDown NightLife App.
]]>
The owner of this new venue is Cleveland, Ohio native and former Kansas City Chief, Alphonso Hodge. When drafted to KC in 2004, Hodge and his family put down roots here. Even when he was traded in ’08, his family remained and he will attest that this city is now home.
Hodge has been involved in the nightlife scene for a number of years, throwing events at different venues throughout the city. While these events were successful and gained a lot of traction, it was hard to feel as though he had total artistic and visual control because he was to subject to guidelines set forth from a third party. Because of this, he decided to take a leap of faith, trust in God and his plans, and began the difficult journey of opening his own nightclub.
As a collegiate and professional athlete, Alphonso is no stranger to hard work. However, when we spoke, he admits this was a challenging experience. Starting a business in the nightlife industry has a mountain of obstacles. There is finding the perfect location, designing the most comfortable layout, applying for/being approved for specific permits or licenses, and appealing to the right demographic of people. At times, Hodge admits, he felt discouraged but forged ahead to see the fruition of his ideas.
The name of The 9ine Ultra Lounge incorporates Hodge’s favorite number. (One that he often wore on his jersey). This spacious facility was designed to bring something new and exciting to the city. With elaborate bottle service and an upscale feel, it is the perfect place to celebrate a birthday or simply dress up, feel good and let loose after a long week. Each night of the weekend offers something different – from Latin Night on Thursday’s to Sold Out Sunday’s – this locale is meant to attract a variety of people both near and far.
UpDown Nightlife is always excited to explore new venues that will add value to the current Kansas City market and offer something different or unique to consumers. Growth and expansion is not only exciting but a welcome change.

The idea behind this trend is to let the night take you where it will. It can be difficult to appease everyone in your group, particularly when your group is large in size. Luckily for us, Kansas City is well equipped for this trend. Districts like Westport and Power & Light offer an array of different venues that supply a variety of music genres, drink specials, and overall feel.
Craft beer is a trend that has been on the rise for quite awhile now for both the male and female demographic. Local breweries are becoming more creative and appealing more and more to their consumers. Of course, the biggest name in KC is Boulevard, however there are numerous smaller breweries scattered throughout the city that will quench your thirst for unique tastes. Bars like Taps on Main and HopCat are on the rise and it is expected that more like them will continue to pop up throughout the metro area.
The dimly lit and secretive feel that these lounges provide is something that consumers have been feigning for. Establishments like Lotus, TikiCat, The Fall and Hush have begun to utilize these once undesirable spaces and transformed them into sleek, sexy establishments that are popular among all types of people.
This is the trend that UpDown excels at, as a company, we recognized the high demand for a venue (or venues) to play the most current hip hop music. With the help of DJ Q, we feel that we have delivered. Every Thursday we provide Touch Thursdays at Brick House in Martini Corner, while on Fridays we move Forward at Bridger’s in Westport.
This is a trend that will never fall off the list but Kansas City takes them to another level. If you’ve ever been at Ale House / Brick House on a Sunday when the Chiefs are playing or No Other Pub when Sporting KC takes the field, you know why. The atmosphere is electric. The fandom for Kansas City sports teams is incomparable and deep rooted so we need a comfortable place that offers good food, well mixed drinks and plenty of TVs.
While trends are always evolving and changing, the UpDown Nightlife team is well equipped to handle it. With feedback from our followers, social engagement and being actively present in all aspects of the nightlife scene, UpDown will continue to make every effort to satisfy the party-goers of Kansas City.

]]>The post Top Artist People Want To Hear When Going Out appeared first on UpDown NightLife App.
]]>UpDown Nightlife prides itself on producing good vibes and positive experiences in different venues in the Kansas City area. One of the major components required to supply this, is a good selection of music that people want to hear. We surveyed our followers on who they are most eager to hear when out on the scene and the results are as follows.
DaBaby is currently running the charts after his breakout just a few short months ago and is KC’s most requested artist, according to our polls. The North Carolina rapper has had 7 songs (including his features) on the Billboard charts in the past 4 months alone. This momentum that he’s built has music enthusiast’s eager for his new album, that dropped today, September 27th. The project titled Kirk will feature other big-time artists like Kevin Gates, Migos & Chance the Rapper.
Ranking number 2 in our polls is none other than the mastermind behind Hot Girl Summer, Megan Thee Stallion. Her music and the movement associated with it has been empowering women to be unapologetically themselves, which is definitely the kind of thing UpDown Nightlife wants to support. Her sexy anthems, like Big Ole Freak, have proven to heighten the energy in any club and is almost guaranteed to get the women dancing.
Last but not least, our poll is completed by the Nigerian singer and songwriter, Burna Boy. Following his cameo on Drake’s More Life album, this West African star has brought the Afro-fusion culture to the U.S. He explains his music as a blend of pop, American hip-hop/R&B, Jamaican dancehall, and hard UK rap with Nigerian music. His African roots are embedded in the core of every beat of every song challenging listeners to fight the natural urge to move their body when the melody hits their ears. Burna Boy’s music commands the attention of the room and our followers have embrace this movement wholeheartedly.
UpDown Nightlife understands that the feedback of our followers is vital to our success. Every artist named in our poll has been played at more than one of our hosted events and we will continue to provide the nightlife scene with the hottest new music.

]]>The post Homebred Legends Host The PreGame2 appeared first on UpDown NightLife App.
]]>As all avid Chief’s fans know, this Sunday is the home opener at Arrowhead stadium. The city itself is gearing up for the game, while the nightlife scene is kicking off the event with The Pregame 2 hosted by HomeBred Legends.
Ohio native and Tennessee State alumni, Aric Jones, found himself searching for a path to take following his college graduation. As luck would have it, he would land in Kansas City alongside a good friend who just so happened to play for our beloved Chiefs. The two formed a joint Snapchat account that was an instant hit and from there, Jones used his creativity and drive to develop his brand.
Homebred Legends was established to influence the community through creativity and excellence to unify dreamers and leaders across the world. When broken down, Homebred is meant to incorporate his hometown of Cleveland Heights, OH and Legends represents what Jones would like to leave behind – a legacy. The driving force behind this brand and its mission is none other than the late, great Nipsey Hussle.
Though Aric only lived in KC for two years, he recognized the need to provide something outside of the norm to embrace the excitement of the first home game of the season. He wanted to hold an event that would be diverse enough to make out-of-towners feel welcome, while also maintaining the genuine, positive, community vibe that is so unique to Kansas City. Cue The Pregame. This year will be the second installment of three and will be held at Opus (6th floor of The Garment House). With a hand selected staff and bottle service options, this year is already proving to be bigger and better than last.
Jones admits that planning this event has had its challenges as he does not currently reside in the area. He notes that communication has been imperative to ensure that what he has envisioned for this event will come to fruition. The visualization of this project has been a year in the making and with the right people and the right look, his creative concept will not need to be compromised which bodes well for a perfectionist like him.
Every time Aric returns to Kansas City, he remarks that it feels like a reunion. The people here continually show love and Chiefs Kingdom is like nothing he’s ever experienced. He notes that Chiefs fans are true fans and the tailgates at Arrowhead are unmatched. That is why he feels so blessed to hold this event because here in KC it isn’t just a party, it’s THE party that will embrace Homebred Legends and all it stands for.
The Pregame 2 will be our featured HotSpot this Saturday. We will also be going live on social media at various points in the evening. This is a party you won’t want to miss. Ladies free before midnight.
