COVID-19 has been extremely difficult to navigate for many small business owners but imagine opening your business right before the chaos and uncertainty of the pandemic began. That is exactly what Quincy Crutchfield and the other owners of Sweet Combforts ft. Wingman Kitchen KC have experienced. Since opening in January 2020, Quincy and his partner have had to get creative and adapt to the ever-changing government mandates and guidelines placed upon bars and restaurants. Nevertheless, their success during a most difficult year can be attributed to the quality product they provide and the fluidity in their approach to every obstacle thrown their way.
If you have had the pleasure of enjoying the dining experience at Sweet Combforts, you know what sets them apart from their competitors. The concept is original, the flavors are magnificent, the consistency is reliable, and the team that they have put together meld in such a way that the customer base can feel the synchronicities. In our interview, Quincy mentioned, “The most lasting thing for people to remember is a great experience.”, and that is exactly what their team strives to do every day.
Because they are located in Westport, nightlife inevitably has an impact on the restaurant. With a bar and delicious food, you can find patrons pregaming for a night out, mingling with the overflow of other establishments, or grabbing a bite before heading home. As someone that has participated in KC Nightlife for many years, Crutchfield has witnessed many highs and lows when it comes to the industry. He mentioned the need for more focus on the experience as a whole, which is proving to be even more difficult during this time.
When asked his opinions on entrepreneurship and the call for support of minority owned businesses, his response was clear. “Believe in the product and know you will have to work more than anyone else affiliated with your brand. The call to action is a good start but we still have lots of working with and supporting of minority businesses to go.”
If you are in the Westport area or simply need to satisfy your craving for chicken and/or waffle pops, stop in to check them out.
